Long Island’s Gilded Age Mansions
The Great Gatsby was published 100 years ago when Gatsby and Daisy enjoyed the over-the-top Gold Coast parties. At its heyday peak, Long Island’s Gold Coast had about 1,200 mansions and many were located on large lots of 50 acres and more. Famous owners included the Vanderbilts, Roosevelts and Astors. Today, only about one-third of the mega mansions still exist. Unlike the nearby Hamptons where homes can sell for over $50 million, Gold Coast home sales are usually for less than $10 million.
