US Home Starts Surged In March
March saw mixed news on US home starts with a steep decline in building permits from February, but home starts showed a robust rebound. According to the most recent Census Bureau report, builders advanced new projects despite a slowdown in future pipeline activity.
Privately owned home starts rose 10.8% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.502 million from the revised 1.356 million pace in February. Additionally, starts were 10.8% greater than those in March 2025. Activity on the permitting side decreased by 10.8% to 1.372 million, which is 7.4% less than the same period last year and lower than the revised pace of 1.538 million in February.
